Dog Saved in Willow Grove House Fire (Updated)

Tuesday December 14 – 8:38 p.m.: Fire crews responded to a house fire at 637 Sampson Avenue off York Road in the Willow Grove section of Upper Moreland Monday evening, officials report the blaze was started when electrical wires that connected to the house broke down.

Upper Moreland police said that no one was home at the time of the fire, but an Upper Moreland police officer rescued the family’s dog who was in the home at the time of the fire.

The fire which started shortly before 8 p.m. was extinguished around 9 p.m.

Fire Marshall Robert Drennen said Tuesday that the fire has been ruled accidental and the house received only minor interior damage.

PECO was on-scene last night after the flames were put out to restore power to nearby homes.

Traffic in the surrounding neighborhood and one lane of York Road was diverted by fire police.

Crews from the Willow Grove, Roslyn and Hatboro responded to the dwelling fire.

Monday December 13 – 10:22 p.m.: A house fire on the 600 Block of Sampson Avenue off York Road in the Willow Grove section of Upper Moreland is under investigation at this hour after a fire was reported at the two-story home minutes before 8 p.m.

Authorities say that the fire was extinguished around 9 p.m.

Upper Moreland police report no one was home at the time of the fire but police rescued a dog from the home which sustained damage.

PECO is working to restore power to parts of Sampson Avenue as the Fire Marshall investigates the cause of the blaze which brought crews from the Willow Grove and Enterprise (Hatboro) Fire Companies.

Fire police have closed a one lane of York Road and traffic in the surrounding neighborhood is being diverted.
