The section of Second Street Pike closed Friday morning, traffic will be detoured over Route 332 and Route 413. Local access will be maintained up to the bridge, PennDOT said.

According to the release, crews from general contractor, James J. Anderson Construction Company, will labor during the course of the month to reconstruct the stone walls of the bridge and repair the deck of the structure that was constructed in the late 1920’s.

PennDOT said, they originally planned to fix the bridge later this spring but had to advance the work to Friday because of severe structural deterioration to the bridge.

The damage was a result of the winter’s excessive snow and freeze-thaw cycles, the release said

PennDOT estimates the project will cost tax payers about $60,000.
