The Warminster Board of Supervisors held a conditional use hearing and unanimously approved a waiver of land development for a project that hopes to install fueling stations near the already existing Giant in the Center Point Place Shopping Center at its meeting Feb. 24.

A conditional use hearing was needed because the site, the former Hollywood Video, is not currently a gas station and a waiver of land development was granted because, according to Chairwoman Ellen Jarvis, it would not increase the amount of impervious surface at the site.

The use is permitted in the site’s zoning district and would, Jarvis said, be considered an accessory to the Giant Store.

A kiosk with a limited number of convenience items will be on site at the station and operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The plan has already been heard by the county’s planning commission and Jarvis said she does not anticipate many issues with the plan because of the safeguards fueling companies are taking to prevent environmental issues and spillage.

“It’s not something they want to happen either,” she said.

The 180 store supermarket chain plans to open the fueling station by spring, according to Giant Public and Community Relations Manager, Chris Brand.

“Giant hopes to offer Warminster customers four pumps, for a total of eight fueling stations,” said Brand.

In 2010, the Giant in Upper Southampton added a gas station which has been, according to Brand, “very well received.”

Giant offers gas fueling stations at approximately 80 of it’s locations and is always looking to expand, said Brand.

Brand was not sure when the Hollywood Video location would be torn down to make room for the gas pumps, but said it will be soon.
