The Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce invites the public to join in honoring four individuals and businesses for their service to the community Feb. 26 at the biennial Borough Ball to be held at Spring Mill Country Club in Ivyland.

The Ball will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. at the country club, 80 Jacksonville Road. Festivities will begin with a cocktail hour from 6 to 7 p.m., featuring hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, followed by dinner with three entrée choices, the awards presentation, and dancing to music provided by Marlin Disc Jockeys. Black tie is optional.

“The Borough Ball celebrates individuals, businesses and organizations that are making a difference in our community,” said Chamber President Chris Dubil. “We invite everyone who lives, works, shops or spends time in Hatboro to help us honor them and enjoy an evening of hospitality and fellowship.”

Nominations for the awards came from members of the chamber and the community at large.

Receiving the chamber’s “Service to Community Award” is Steven Guenst, owner of Designs In Stone, Hatboro. The Hatboro resident was nominated “for working tirelessly behind the scenes” on events that have benefited, among other nonprofit organizations, the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce, Main Street and Elm Street Hatboro, the Union Library of Hatboro, and the Kiwanis Club of Hatboro and Horsham.

William Brusca and his restaurant, Café LaFontana in Hatboro, will receive the “Service in Business Award” earned for “distinguished service that has enhanced the quality of business in the greater Hatboro community.”

For nearly 15 years, Café LaFontana has provided Hatboro with an upscale restaurant and bar, the nomination stated, offering a gathering place for business meetings, as well as for friends and families, bringing new faces to town and with them, business to other Hatboro establishments. Brusca, a member of the chamber board of directors, also was lauded for his – and the restaurant’s – support of borough activities and events.

Selected by chamber President Dubil as “Person of the Year” is Hatboro resident Harriet Ehrsam, director of the Union Library of Hatboro for nearly 20 years. “Every child in Hatboro knows ‘Miss Harriett’ ”said Dubil. “She has had a major impact on the community and is committed to our youth,” he said, noting that she served for 10 years on the Hatboro-Horsham School Board. He credits her with providing appealing and engaging programs for children, as well as adults, and for her constant efforts to keep them fresh and fun. “Parents come up to me unsolicited,” said Dubil, “and say, ‘My kids love Ms. Harriett.’ ”

Dubil tapped for the “President’s Award,” Hatboro-based Impact Thrift Stores (www.impactthrift.org), a nonprofit organization which supports 16 area charities with proceeds generated by stores in Hatboro, Montgomeryville and Norristown.

Impact supports the chamber’s efforts in a myriad of ways, said Dubil. Its management team and employees help with all the downtown events the chamber presents for the community, and Treasurer and CEO Allan M. Chagan has, for many years, served as a chamber vice president heading the Retail Merchants division. Dubil also noted the effect Impact’s efforts have had on area charities – it recently hit the $1 million mark in contributions – allowing it, as Impact’s mission states, “to do what they do best – feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, and supporting children and families in need.”
