In the mid-2000s, David Ivins was staying up all night in his Lower Southampton mobile home doing drugs and looking at Internet porn.

During one of his binges on cocaine and methamphetamine, he came across images of children while downloading porn on the computer. He said he deleted those files. But six months later, he was looking at child pornography again.

Eventually, he had thousands of images of children engaged in sex acts.

“I can’t explain how sorry I feel inside,” Ivins said Monday at his sentencing here in federal court.

U.S. District Court Judge Joel Slomsky sentenced Ivins to six years in prison for possessing more than 3,000 images of child pornography, which included girls as young as 4 years old.

Ivins also must pay a $1,500 fine, register as a sex offender, and spend 10 years under federal supervision when he gets out of prison.

Ivins, 34, of Summit Avenue, faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. And federal sentencing guidelines called for Ivins to spend at least nine years behind bars.
