Lower Moreland Womans Murder Remains Unsolved

January 10, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

It’s been a year since Mary D. Pellegrino, 86, was murdered in her Lower Moreland home during a robbery.

An elderly Lower Moreland woman was murdered a year ago in her home during a robbery.

The killing of Mary D. Pellegrino, 86, was Montgomery County’s first homicide in 2010 and the case remains unsolved.

While now considered a “cold case,” Pellegrino’s death has not been forgotten.

“This case sticks in my craw,” said First Assistant District Attorney Kevin R. Steele, who routinely pores through cold cases either by himself or with detectives, always looking for something else that investigators can do to move a case forward.

“These victims are no longer here but someone has to make sure that they are not forgotten and that they receive the justice to which they are entitled,” said Steele who, on the day he was contacted for an update on the Pellegrino case, had been reviewing two other cold cases, one from 1993 and another from 2003.

Steele said he was optimistic that these cases as well as all others “will be solved, maybe not this week or next year or the year after but they will get solved.”

There are continuous advances in technology, he said.
