Lower Southampton Mom & Son Plead Guilty in Stabbing

A Lower Southampton man who stabbed his cousin at a party then enlisted his mother’s help from behind bars to intimidate witnesses into blaming another man for the attack, was sentenced today to 2-1/2 to five years in a state prison, plus 10 years of probation.

Samuel Maratea, 18, pleaded guilty in Bucks County Court in Doylestown alongside his mother, Kelly Maratea, 46. She will be sentenced at a later date.

The stabbing occurred on May 14, at a Richhill Road home. Maratea and the victim, Shane Murphy, 18, were attending a party with numerous juveniles when a fight broke out.

Witnesses said Murphy punched Maratea, and Maratea responded by slashing his cousin across the neck and torso with a three-inch knife.

Two juveniles were near the men when the fight occurred. One girl sustained a minor cut on her arm from the knife.

Murphy was rushed in a friend’s car to a nearby hospital. His wounds were not life threatening, but he will have a permanent scar, said deputy district attorney Sara Rothman.
