‘Gruesome’ Churchville New Year’s Day Crash Proves Fatal

Update 1/3/11: Police Still Investigating Fatal New Year’s Morning Wreck; Passenger ID’d

1/1/11 4:55 p.m.: Hours after the start of 2011 a Mazda Six with two occupants drove off Bristol Road in Churchville and crashed into three trees, sources say that the female driver was under the influence at the time of the wreck which killed her male passenger.

Police say that the front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bucks County Coroner and the driver was taken to Saint Mary’s Medical Center and later released.

Police said the crash which occurred minutes after 6:30 a.m. on the 1800 block East Bristol Road west of Murray Road in the Churchville section of Northampton is still under investigation.

The Mazda traveled up a small hill located on Bristol Road and then veered off the roadway striking three trees.

Authorities report that the accident is still under investigation and are not releasing the victims names or other details of the crash.

An unnamed source who was at the scene of the accident this morning reports that the scene was “gruesome”. The source who is close to police says that the female driver was under the influence of what is believed to be drugs and/or alcohol. The woman is also reported to have had previous run-ins with police.

Northampton Police were assisted by Upper Southampton Police, Lower Southampton Police, the Tri-Hampton Rescue Squad and the Northampton Volunteer Fire Department.

Bristol Road was closed between Murray and Buck Hill Drive, police remained on-scene until mid-morning gathering evidence and clearing the wreck.

1:53 p.m.: We can confirm that a male passenger in the car was killed. The female who was driving taken from the car with minor injuries.

9:47 a.m.: We have reports of that a woman man died when her vehicle hit a telephone pole on or near Murray Road in Northampton shortly before 7 a.m. this morning.

We are awaiting a response from Northampton Police.
