Willow Grove Crash Sends Three to Hospital; Child Injured

A three car crash sent three people to the hospital including a 7-year-old child, Thursday afternoon in Willow Grove.

Upper Moreland Police Chief Thomas Nestel said that three people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, one of the injured was a 7-year-old child.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and York Road in the Willow Grove section of Upper Moreland near the entrance to the Super Giant Food Store shortly before 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses to the accident say that they believed the blue BMW struck the black KIA which was stopped at a red light, the black KIA contained the child.

“I heard what sounded like an 18-wheeler hitting a brick wall, ” said one woman describing what she heard after entering the Super Giant Food Store across the street.

Cedar Avenue was closed and one lane of York Road blocked as rescuers from the Willow Grove and Horsham Fire Companies extracted the crash victims.

The fire companies had to cut the doors of the black KIA to get the passengers out of the car.

EMT’s from the Second Alarmers Rescue Squad and the Horsham Ambulance Corps responded to the scene.

Nestel said at the scene that it was to early to determine if citations would be issued or release the cause.
