Following both backlash and praise of his veto of the human relations ordinance, Hatboro Mayor Norm Hawkes issued a statement to borough council Dec. 20.

“Regarding the GLBT [gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender] issue, I would like to ask council to construct a resolution asking the state to take this matter up as soon as practical,” Hawkes said to council.

“I would ask that all of council join me in requesting that the rights of all individual residents of the commonwealth are protected as required under the state constitution. I represent all of the residents of the borough and I see the state as the level where this can be assured,” he said.
