A Upper Moreland Ford Victoria police cruiser was broadsided by Ford F-150 pick-up truck Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Byberry and Warminster Roads on the Hatboro-Upper Moreland border.

Upper Moreland Officer William Gershanick was not injured in the wreck, which happened around 12:30 p.m., the driver of the pick-up who did not want his name released suffered a gash to the head but did not want to be transported to the hospital but was looked at by EMT’s on the scene who wrapped the gash on his head said Upper Moreland police Chief Thomas Nestel.

Nestel said Officer Gershanick was responding with lights and sirens on to a call to check on a female officer who had not checked in with Montgomery County dispatch after responding to a disturbance call. The driver of the pick-up did not hear the sirens and went to go through the intersection and broadsided the marked police cruiser which was turning onto Warminster Road headed toward Easton Road (Rt. 611).

“I was less than a mile from home, I was almost there,” said the soft spoken driver of the pick-up who stood on the sidewalk on Warminster Road as police officers took photos of the wreck.

The accident closed parts of Byberry and Warminster Road for nearly an hour this afternoon.

Nestel said Monday the townships mechanics will look at the car to assess the damage, the driver of the pick-up told BuxMontNews.com that he assumes the truck is totaled.

While on scene of this accident Hatboro police were called to a less serious accident on York Road near Daddypop’s Diner.

Hatboro police who are conducting the investigation have not releases any word on any charges or citations issued to the driver of the pick-up.
