Giant Food Stores announced Thursday that they have purchased the Feasterville Genuardi’s and plan to re-open it as a Giant come the new year.

Giant Foods based out of Central Pennsylvania purchased the Feasterville Genuardi’s along with another Genuardi’s in Warrington.

Giant plans to close the Bustleton Pike and Warrington stores on November 13 at 6 p.m. and plans to re-open the updated stores in the first quarter of 2011.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to expand our presence in the greater Philadelphia region. We look forward to providing our customers in these areas the superior value and quality they have come to expect from Giant” , said Rick Herring president of Giant.

Genuardi’s, which has closed five local stores recently, has its regional headquarters in East Norriton, PA and is owned by Safeway INC.

Sad to see a once local, family-owned and operated market lose out to a national chain. Genuuardi's Feasterville will be missed.
