Weather Preparedness

September 7, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

The Atlantic hurricane season officially started June 1st and will last until November 30th. Even though our region has been bypassed so far, it is still important to take the proper precautions for any severe weather we might have to endure this year.

According to Rob Kay Sr., Upper Makefield Emergency Management Coordinator, a good first step is to sign up for ‘Ready Notify’.

As part of the ‘Roam Secure Alert Network’, this program can be used to deliver emergency notices to your e mail account, cell phone, pager, or smartphone.

Bucks County instituted this feature in 2007 during the Bucks County Ready Campaign. Commissioner Charles Martin said the campaign is, “Specifically designed to inform residents about simple but important things they can do to be ready for weather and other events in our area.”

In addition to signing up for Ready Notify, Mr. Kay suggests having a kit ready with ample, non perishable supplies in case of an extended loss of electric.
